Texas Historical Commission recognizes
Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, Texas
as a new historical site.
American and Confederate flags were available 
to be placed on veterans gravesites.

Barbara Winingham, President of The Amity Club introduces Kim Brown Gray who opened the dedication singing The National Anthem.  Kim led the crowd with Amazing Grace before Taps was played by Zack McCaig.

Linda Mesler, Amity Club Member, assisted the Bowie Brownie Troop in distributing programs for the Dedication.

The Bowie Campfire USA assisted The Amity Club by serving cake and punch after the Dedication.

The local Cub Scout Pack 116 assisted in carrying rocks to build the rock fence for the cemetery project.

Helen George, 1st Vice President of The Amity Club, recognizes the donation of the Stallings & Lindsay pioneer families for donating to the Elmwood Cemetery project.  Pictured from left to right: Helen George, Barbara Winingham, Dr. Charles Cocanoughner, James Winingham (husband of Barbara), and Edwina Browning, all are the great grandchildren of James W. and Jeptha Stallings. Stallings arrived in Montague County in 1863.  Lavonia Stallings Lindsey arrived in Montague County in 1877.

Barbara Winingham recognizes James and Joan Cantwell for their donation to the project in memory of their families.James Cantwell's grandparents, James Argyle Cantwell and Susan Melvina Brawley Cantwell, are buried in Elmwood Cemetery.  His grandparents moved from Parker County to Oklahoma and later to the Bowie area in 1909 at which time they purchased 80 acres of land south of Bowie. Their youngest of ten children was Robert Ivy "Beetle" Cantwell, father of James Cantwell. Five of James Argyle and Susan Melvina's children are also buried in Elmwood Cemetery and are as follows:  Jasper Thompson Cantwell (veteran of World War I), Effie Lee Cantwell Moody, an infant twin of Joseph Mansfield Cantwell, Barney Andrew Cantwell, and Robert Ivy "Beetle" Cantwell.
 
Joan Kitley Cantwell's parents, Dayton Victor Kitley and Hazel Jo Eaves Kitley, are buried in Elmwood Cemetery.

Barbara Winingham recognizes Lola Pitzer, great granddaughter of John Wiseman Slaughter, pioneer who arrived in Montague County in 1886.

Barbara Winingham recognizes Bobby and Pam (McLendon) Coggin and Frankie Lovelace for their donation to the cemetery project.  Pam is a great great granddaughter of Cash McDonald who arrived in Montague County in 1856 and lived at Queen's Peak.

Zack McCaig, 15 year old son of Dr. and Mrs. D.B.McCaig played TAPS  for the closing of the Elmwood Cemetery Dedication.
